American Red Cross Paves the Way to Recovery for Residents of Mayfield, Kentucky

PRA Group Gives $25,000 to Support the Tornado-Ravaged Community

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 10, 2022 – People across the country have united to support the citizens of Mayfield, Ky., following the devastation caused by tornado damage in December. The American Red Cross has been a major player impacting the recovery of the Mayfield community by raising millions to provide shelter and care. With a recent donation, PRA Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a global leader in acquiring and collecting nonperforming loans, has pledged $25,000 in support of the nonprofit’s disaster relief efforts.

The tornadoes, some of which were on the ground continuously for 165 miles, left multi-mile wakes, destroying residents’ homes, cars, places of work and the industrial heart of the city. The Red Cross is responding by providing medical care, organizing distribution channels for food and goods and partnering with local officials to provide shelter for the over 1,000 people displaced from their homes.

“This community organized and rallied together almost unlike any I have ever seen before. We will stay here working in lockstep with them until they are back on their feet,” said Erik Michael, division fundraising vice president for the Red Cross. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to give out $1,500 to impacted families—three times more than ever before—only eight days after impact. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming, and it is giving this community hope as we begin a new year.”

“As the enormity of this disaster in Mayfield became apparent, we knew we had to act. The Red Cross was already there working to bring restoration and vitality back to a community that has lost so much,” said Susan Guevara, senior vice president of compliance for PRA Group. “We are committed to supporting organizations that strengthen communities around the world, and the Red Cross could not be more emblematic of that commitment.”

As we begin the new year, the Red Cross forecasts the greatest need will be funding for temporary housing, whether through building material donations or assistance in financing travel trailers and temporary homes. The other major category will be funding for mental health services following the emotional trauma of the impact.
