PRA Group Gives $25,000 to Alzheimer’s Association, Joins in Education and National Walk

NORFOLK, VA – PRA Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), joined the fight against Alzheimer’s this June during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, following a $25,000 donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The global leader in acquiring and servicing nonperforming loans partnered with the nonprofit organization to host a virtual lunch and learn focused on the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s. They chose to hold the event on the summer solstice, or “The Longest Day,” when Alzheimer’s Association rallies its supporters to fight against the darkness of Alzheimer’s on the day with the most light.

During the educational event, PRA Group employees learned how to recognize common signs of Alzheimer’s disease, how to approach someone about memory concerns and the importance of early detection and benefits of a diagnosis. They also heard from experts about possible tests and assessments for the diagnostic process and the resources the Alzheimer’s Association makes available.

According to the organization’s research, nearly six million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s—a number that increases yearly as the population ages. As one of the most common causes of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease is a leading cause of death in U.S. adults.

“We are so grateful to our outstanding partners like PRA Group for their commitment to the Alzheimer’s Association and our mission,” said Melissa LaBonge, senior associate director of Constituent Events and Partnerships at Alzheimer’s Association. “Not only for providing important education about the disease, but also for the generous donation that allows the Association to continue to help fuel critical Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs”.

“With such high case instances, it is likely many of our team members or their loved ones have been directly or indirectly affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia,” said Diana Macon, senior analyst of compliance monitoring, and member of PRA Group’s Mental and Emotional Well-Being employee resource group. “It is amazing that our company is taking steps to ensure they feel heard and supported.”

PRA Group’s operation sites across the U.S. will unite to participate as a National Team in the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s this fall. Employee registrations for the walk are covered by the company, and fundraising is encouraged.
