Colleagues Compete for a Cause in the PRA Group Pedometer Challenge

NORFOLK, VA – PRA Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a global leader in acquiring and collecting nonperforming loans, donated over €6,500 to 12 charities in Europe spanning health and human services, educational advancement and environmental sustainability following its 2022 PRA Group World Records Pedometer Challenge.

82 teams composed of over 400 participants from the company’s European and U.S. offices entered the challenge, recording nearly 148 million steps over the course of one month. PRA Group is recognizing individuals who demonstrated outstanding achievements and commitments to their team’s goals by planting a tree in the PRA Forest in their honor.

PRA Group’s partnership with Tree-Nation began in 2021, and the company has since sponsored over 340 trees planted in the areas of greatest need around the world. PRA Group will plant an additional 77 trees as prizes for the pedometer challenge in time for Earth Day.

Along with celebratory tree planting certificates and achievement badges, participating employees self-reported an increase in mental and physical well-being resulting from the pedometer challenge.

Based on an internal survey:

  • 80% were more physically active,
  • 54% felt more motivated,
  • 46% said they had better physical health,
  • 40% felt more socially connected,
  • 36% said their mental well-being improved,
  • 28% indicated that they were more productive,
  • 21% reported better sleep during the challenge and
  • 81% said they believe the challenge will change their future level of activity.

Participants reflected on their favorite part of the competition: “The pedometer challenge is a wonderful way to have a shared experience across the company—pictures of my colleagues having fun and a bit of lighthearted rivalry inspired me to go fabulous places just to get more steps in.”

Others look to how it will impact their futures, noting: “it has given me more purpose to live a healthier life.”

Having completed the challenge’s first year including teams outside of Europe, PRA Group plans to increase global participation in the coming years. Wider engagement will enable more employees to be directly involved in the company’s impact on communities and environmental sustainability around the world through its local partnerships and support of Tree-Nation.
