PRA Group Teams Up with ForKids to Make Education More Accessible in Hampton Roads

NORFOLK, VA  – PRA Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a global leader in acquiring and collecting nonperforming loans, culminated its month-long school supply drive to support ForKids with an on-site event at the nonprofit organization’s facilities. Since its establishment in May 1988 as an emergency shelter, ForKids has expanded their programs to provide education, counseling and housing placement to families and children throughout Hampton Roads.

With a new school year fast approaching, ForKids’ services and contributions to our community are more crucial than ever. For more than two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has had adverse effects on children living in poverty. The organization estimates that economically disadvantaged children have lost more than a year’s worth of schooling—twice as much as other K-12 students.

Seeking to break this cycle, ForKids offers customized instruction, mentoring, after school tutoring and summer educational programs to students in need, at no cost. To support these important initiatives, PRA Group held school supply drives at the Norfolk and Hampton offices in Virginia during the month of August. This week, PRA Group employees hand-delivered the donated supplies to ForKids, then sorted them and filled backpacks while visiting the facility.

“PRA Group and ForKids share the desire to leave a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work,” said Elizabeth Kersey, senior vice president of communications and public policy. “Partnering with ForKids by providing school supplies and preparing backpacks for back-to-school season are rewarding ways for our team members to unite in supporting a dynamic organization that changes the lives of so many.”

The two organizations have a long history of collaboration. Most recently, PRA Group’s funding supported meals, activities and transportation for pre-K and elementary school day camps focused on academic enrichment and preventing summer learning loss.
