PRA Group Springs into Action with Volunteering

Virginia-Based Financial Services Company Gives Back to Communities Through New Initiatives

NORFOLK, Va., June 04, 2024 – PRA Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a global leader in acquiring and collecting nonperforming loans, encourages its global workforce to be an active part of improving their communities by providing paid time off for volunteering in the U.S. year-round and a volunteer time program across our European offices. In 2023, these programs enabled our colleagues to contribute more than 1,400 hours of volunteer service.

To build upon that momentum in 2024, PRA Group launched Spring into Action, a series of volunteer opportunities across a variety of nonprofit organizations in Coastal Virginia, home to PRA Group’s global headquarters.

The event began in March when more than a dozen volunteers joined the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art for a marsh cleanup, where they also had the opportunity to tour Mark Dion and Alexis Rockman’s Journey to Nature’s Underworld exhibition. Sponsored by PRA Group, the exhibition uses a mixture of painting, sculpting and collage to tell a story about humanity’s strained relationship with our environment. The art provided context for the positive impact of their volunteer efforts as they removed more than 400 pounds of trash from the marsh in just under two hours.

The theme of beautifying the environment continued to resonate with our colleagues throughout the season. As a longtime supporter of the Elizabeth River Trail Foundation and its recently added Glowline, PRA Group organized volunteer opportunities for multiple teams to help maintain the Elizabeth River Trail by removing trash and providing landscaping assistance for the surrounding areas.

A team of volunteers also partook in an environmentally focused excursion with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, spending the morning touring their facilities and learning about the surrounding area’s wildlife and ecosystem and then spending the afternoon working to ensure it can continue to thrive. The day’s task specifically focused on the bay’s oyster population, and participants lent their skills to build and repair oyster cages and habitats, as well as bagging shells to keep the area safe and clean. PRA Group’s volunteers helped bag 36,000 recycled oyster shells, which will provide homes for 360,000 baby oysters. The Chesapeake Bay’s oyster population plays a critical role in filtering clean water. A group of oysters that size could filter approximately 18,000,000 gallons of water every day.

United Way’s seventh annual Day of Action, a day dedicated to encouraging people around the world to take part in charitable service, also drew a team of volunteers to the garden of Thurgood Marshall Elementary. The group visited the school in the morning, helping decorate the garden and pitching in with landscaping help. Thurgood Marshall Elementary is also home to PRA Group’s Lunch Buddy Mentor Program in partnership with United Way South Hampton Roads, so many of the students that PRA Group colleagues mentor will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautified garden year-round.

The volunteer activities were not limited to the outdoors, however, as another team donated their time to scrub dog kennels, feed and bathe cats and smaller animals, and wash food and water bowls at the Norfolk Animal Care Center. The nonprofit cares for an average of 400 to 600 animals a month and is in constant need of volunteer service.

“As the spring comes to a close, we are excited to see the overwhelming giving spirit our colleagues have demonstrated continue throughout the rest of the year,” said Manager of Corporate Events and Community Engagement Jillian Talley, one of the colleagues leading this wave of volunteerism. “It’s been wonderful helping colleagues connect with the community, build team camaraderie, and make a positive impact.”
