PRA Group’s Black Excellence ERG Honors Juneteenth with African Drum and Dance Performance

The two performances included PRA Group colleague Howard Henry and were attended by 100+ team members.

NORFOLK, Va., June 19, 2024 – In celebration of Juneteenth, PRA Group’s recently formed Black Excellence Employee Resource Group (ERG) hosted an African drum and dance performance by The DAY Program at PRA Group’s global corporate headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. The drum troupe, comprised of nine musicians and dancers, included PRA Group Assistant Vice President of Disputes and Complaints Howard Henry. More than 100 PRA Group employees gathered in the parking lot outside of PRA Group’s headquarters to enjoy the music, support their colleague and reflect on the rich cultural history that Juneteenth represents.

The DAY Program is a Hampton, Virginia-based nonprofit organization focuses on sharing traditional African music, dance and yoga with people of all ages in the greater Hampton Roads area. The program visits and performs at festivals, schools and hosts educational classes of their own that blend fitness, art and cultural education. Their time with PRA Group included lessons on the names and backgrounds of each of the African drum rhythms performed during the show.

“Being able to introduce so many of our colleagues to traditional African music and dancing as part of the DAY Program was a such an honor,” Henry shared. “Recognizing and embracing our history through events like this fosters a deeper sense of understanding and unity within our company.”

This event is the latest in a series of outreach initiatives by the Black Excellence ERG, which was formed in December of 2023. In January, the group organized a book drive in honor of MLK Day of Service that collected nearly 100 books for WHRO’s Raising Readers youth literacy program. The ERG followed up on that success with a nationwide foodbank volunteer outing, where over 60 volunteers coordinated outings at food banks near each of PRA Group’s regional offices.
