PRA Group Donates $50,000 to Old Dominion University’s Student Food Pantry

Norfolk, Va., July 29, 2020 — PRA Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a global leader in acquiring and collecting nonperforming loans, today announced a $50,000 donation to Old Dominion University’s (ODU) student food pantry.

In May, ODU started “The Pantry” to serve students experiencing food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the first company to contribute to The Pantry, PRA Group is supporting ODU students as they prepare to resume classes this fall and continuing to aid communities directly affected by COVID-19.

“Once we learned that many ODU students didn’t have regular access to food, we knew we had to get involved. We understand people experience tough financial situations and we want to help keep students in school — we don’t want to see anyone drop out because they’re going hungry,” said Kevin Stevenson, president and chief executive officer. “Our sponsorship of The Pantry ensures ODU students not only have access to food but have what they need to focus on succeeding in college.”

The Pantry has filled over 300 student food orders and expects to serve hundreds more this fall. A 2019 survey conducted by ODU’s Dean of Students Office found that 57% of survey respondents “often or sometimes” worried whether their food would run out before they were able to buy more, demonstrating a significantly higher level of food insecurity in ODU students compared to students nationwide.

“We appreciate PRA Group’s significant act of generosity,” President John R. Broderick said. “They have been a strong partner of Old Dominion’s Strome College of Business, and now they have stepped up to help our students meet the challenges of the pandemic.”

Since its founding almost 25 years ago, PRA Group has prioritized strengthening the communities where its employees live and work. PRA’s corporate and employee giving spans non-profit categories from education, health and human services to youth development and financial literacy.
